South Korea reports record 41.4 C as heat wave continues

South Korea has recorded its highest temperature since modern weather records began, after the city of Yangsan reached 41.4 C on Friday afternoon. The reading surpassed the previous national record of 41.0 C set in 2018. The Korea Meteorological Administration said temperatures in Yangsan had stayed above 40 C for three straight days as a severe heat wave affected much of the country. Authorities have issued the highestlevel heat warning for parts of South Gyeongsang province, while advisories and warnings remain in place across most of South Korea. Forecasters said the extreme heat was being driven by two highpressure systems that are trapping hot air over the Korean Peninsula. They are also watching Typhoon Dolphin in the western Pacific, though its impact on the heat wave is still uncertain.
