Burnaby crash kills two Uber passengers after pickup driver went the wrong way Police say alcohol may be a factor—find the latest details and traffic impact

Two Uber passengers died in a headon crash on Highway 1 in Burnaby early Wednesday after police say a pickup truck was traveling the wrong way in the westbound lanes. RCMP said the collision happened just before 12:30 a.m. between Kensington Avenue and Sprott Street, closing westbound lanes for more than 10 hours and causing major traffic delays during the morning commute. The passengers who died were a 34yearold woman and a 32yearold man from Surrey. The Uber driver was taken to hospital with serious but nonlifethreatening injuries. Police arrested the pickup driver, a 32yearold Surrey man, and later released him while the investigation continues. Investigators said alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor, and they are asking witnesses or anyone with video from the area to contact BC Highway Patrol.
