U.S. service member killed in Iraq during drone ordnance operation, CENTCOM says

A U.S. service member was killed in northern Iraq on July 18 while specialists were handling unexploded ordnance left behind by a downed Iranian oneway attack drone, according to U.S. Central Command. CENTCOM said a second service member was injured and is receiving medical care. The military did not release additional details about the personnel involved. The announcement came the same day U.S. forces in Jordan recovered unidentified remains while searching for a service member reported missing after a separate Iranian attack on a U.S. base. Officials said the remains will be examined to confirm identity. CENTCOM said it is withholding names and other identifying information until families are notified.
