Court orders release of redacted passages in Nazi war crimes study

Federal Court order opens parts of the Nazi war crimes report in Canada See why hidden findings on intelligence links and resettlement are now public

The Federal Court has ordered the government to release parts of a 1986 study tied to a federal inquiry into war crimes. The report examined the resettlement of alleged Nazi war criminals in Canada after the Second World War. Justice Simon Fothergill said previously withheld sections must be disclosed, including material related to the role of American intelligence agencies in helping Nazi collaborators settle in Canada. The court rejected the government's argument that releasing the information would damage Canada's international relations. B'nai Brith Canada has spent years seeking fuller access to the report by researcher Alti Rodal. Library and Archives Canada had released some additional passages in 2024 but continued to keep other sections secret until the court ruling.
