Former Vice President Mike Pence said President Donald Trump’s new Iran memorandum of understanding falls short of what the U.S. should require. In a Wall Street Journal opinion piece, Pence argued that the agreement looks like a preliminary framework rather than a final deal.
Pence said the arrangement resembles the kind of appeasement Trump rejected during his first term. He added that he supports diplomacy and wants to avoid another prolonged war in the Middle East, but said any agreement must be verifiable and address Iran’s nuclear ambitions and support for armed groups.
He also argued that recent pressure on Iran helped bring Tehran to the table and said the next 60 days should be used to secure stronger terms. Fox News said it reached out to the White House for comment.
