Environment and Climate Change Canada says much of the country is likely to see warmerthanaverage conditions this summer, with heat and humidity expected to be strongest in regions including British Columbia, Yukon, parts of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, the northern Prairies, and Atlantic Canada.
Meteorologists said daytoday weather will still vary with cold fronts, thunderstorms and local breezes, but the broader seasonal trend points to abovenormal temperatures. In southern Ontario, including Ottawa and Toronto, earlyseason heat has already pushed temperatures into the high 20s and near 30 C.
The forecast also points to higher humidity in several regions, which could make nights feel warmer and limit cooling overnight. Officials said climate change and a developing El Niño are among the main factors shaping the outlook, while precipitation remains harder to predict and may vary widely by region. British Columbia is expected to face the highest and most sustained wildfire risk this season.
