$1.5M bail revoked for alleged Project South suspect in Toronto corruption probe
Project South bail revocation: Brian Da Costa returns to custody amid serious charges tied to bribery, trafficking and an alleged murder plot in Toronto.
An alleged drug trafficker linked to Toronto’s Project South corruption investigation has been taken back into custody after a Superior Court judge revoked his bail.
Brian Da Costa had previously been released in March on $1.5 million bail and placed under house arrest with strict conditions, including surrendering his passport and wearing a GPS ankle monitor. The Crown later asked for a review of that decision.
Da Costa faces 16 charges, including bribing a peace officer, drug trafficking, trafficking police uniforms, and conspiracy to obstruct justice. Investigators say he received confidential information from a Toronto police officer that was allegedly used in a failed plot to kill a senior corrections officer. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 26.
