Quesnel, B.C., is seeing results from a targeted effort to recruit U.S.trained physicians to the northern community.
A city healthcare recruiter says at least four doctors are expected to join local practices by the end of the summer, including two who have already arrived and two more scheduled to come later. The goal is to ease long waits for family doctors in a community of about 10,000 people.
The city’s approach includes “red carpet visits” for potential recruits and their families, with local officials hosting tours, meals and activities tailored to personal interests. Northern Health says the strategy has also helped bring in parttime physicians and doctors working toward licensing in British Columbia.
The recruitment push is part of a broader provincial effort to draw more U.S.trained health workers to B.C., especially in rural areas facing staffing shortages.
