Six-month Broadway closure begins near Cambie Street

West Broadway closure in Vancouver slows traffic for six months during subway work See detours, bus reroutes and what stays open near Broadway-City Hall station

A twoblock section of West Broadway in Vancouver is closing to vehicle traffic for about six months starting Monday as construction on the Broadway Subway Project enters its final phase. The closure affects the stretch between Alberta and Cambie streets near the BroadwayCity Hall station. Drivers are being diverted to West 8th Avenue, and TransLink says several bus routes, including the 99 BLine, 9 and N9, will be rerouted while nearby stops are moved temporarily. Provincial officials say the closure will shorten construction time around the station, while pedestrian access to businesses, services and homes in the area will remain open. Local businesses, however, say they expect another difficult period after years of disruption linked to the subway work.
