Zelenskyy to address UN as Russia strikes Kyiv
Kyiv drone strikes damage rail and fuel sites as Russian attacks intensify See the latest on casualties, air defenses and stalled peace talks.
Russian drone strikes hit Kyiv on Wednesday, damaging railway infrastructure, warehouses and fuel stations just hours before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was set to speak at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
City officials said at least two people were killed and 22 were injured in the attack, which was among the heaviest recent strikes on the Ukrainian capital. The assault comes as Russia has increased the use of faster jet drones that are harder to stop.
Zelenskyy met U.S. President Donald Trump on the UN sidelines on Tuesday to discuss a possible pause on attacks against energy targets and requests for more Patriot air defence missiles. No agreement was reached. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, but the Kremlin said there are still no conditions for peace talks to move forward.
