Over 1,000 protest Carney's investment summit in Toronto

Toronto protest opposes Canada Investment Summit over privatization and climate fears See why 1,000+ marched as Carney courts investors for major projects and AI

More than 1,000 people marched in downtown Toronto on Monday to oppose Prime Minister Mark Carney's Canada Investment Summit, which is drawing major investors to the city. The summit, held Sept. 1415, is aimed at attracting largescale private and institutional investment for projects across Canada, including infrastructure, energy, rail, and AI. Critics at the protest said they were worried about privatization, public services, climate impacts, and the influence of foreign investors on national priorities. Demonstrators gathered at Nathan Phillips Square before marching toward the Art Gallery of Ontario, where the summit's opening gala was taking place behind a police barrier. Federal Industry Minister Mélanie Joly defended the event, saying Canada needs foreign capital to support major projects while protecting national security and public interests.
