Simon Fraser University’s new medical school has received a $40 million donation from the Stephens family, marking the largest single gift in the university’s history. The school will be named the SFU Stephens Family School of Medicine in recognition of the contribution. The family, known for founding Nature’s Path, Love Crunch and Que Pasa Mexican Foods, said the donation is intended as an investment in the public good. Premier David Eby said the new school will help make Surrey a centre for health care innovation and support efforts to train more doctors in British Columbia. Provincial officials said the funding will strengthen medical training with new equipment and academic support as the province continues to address a shortage of healthcare workers.
