Montreal transit authority to study eight areas for possible expansion

Montreal’s regional transit authority says it will study eight areas that could be candidates for future public transit expansion. The first review will focus on Chomedey–SaintLaurent, and the studies are scheduled to run from this year through 2029. According to the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain, the work will assess current and future mobility needs and identify projects that could deliver the greatest benefit to residents. The agency plans to use the findings to recommend the most suitable options to the Quebec government and help shape future investment decisions. The eight areas under review include parts of Montreal, Laval, the Laurentian corridor, Les Moulins, the Montérégie corridor, SaintLaurent–Ahuntsic–MontréalNord, Marguerited’Youville, and Roussillon. Experts and transit advocates say the initiative is a positive step, though they also note the need for a broader regional view and longterm funding support.
