OpenAI introduces Presence for enterprise AI agents

OpenAI Presence helps enterprises deploy AI agents with stronger controls Set permissions, guardrails, and approvals to launch faster with confidence

OpenAI has introduced Presence, a product for enterprises that want to deploy AI agents in production with stronger controls. The system is designed to help agents answer questions, resolve issues, use company tools, take approved actions, and escalate to human staff when needed. The company says each deployment is built around a specific workflow, such as billing support, insurance claims, or employee IT requests. Customers define the agent’s permissions, policies, and approval requirements, while OpenAI provides guardrails, evaluations, simulations, and a Codexbased improvement loop to help teams refine performance after launch. Presence is available today for voice and chat use cases, including customer support, outbound sales, and internal workflows. OpenAI says the product is being used in its own Englishlanguage phone support channel and is also being explored by companies including BBVA, SoftBank, and IAG. The product is currently offered to eligible enterprise customers through a limited general availability program.
