Quebec man convicted of trafficking woman while in Manitoba custody
Quebec man convicted of human trafficking after pressuring victim from jail See how nearly 1,000 calls helped seal the case in Manitoba court
A Quebec man has been found guilty of human trafficking after repeatedly contacting a woman and pressuring her to keep doing sex work while he was in custody in Manitoba, according to a judge’s decision.
JeanFrançois D'AstiBrideau was convicted of human trafficking, benefiting from proceeds of trafficking, pimping, disobeying a court order, and obstruction of justice, Manitoba Judge Denis Guénette wrote in an Aug. 11 ruling.
Court records say prosecutors believed D'AstiBrideau made nearly 1,000 calls to the victim. The judge reviewed 100 of those calls and found 88 were conversations between him and the woman, whose identity is protected. The article directs readers to a video for more details.
