Quebec doctor convicted of assault and counselling an offence
Quebec doctor guilty of assault and counselling a false entry in regulator case Court ruling reveals the details and what happens next at sentencing Oct. 15
A Quebec doctor has been found guilty on two assault counts and one count of counselling a person to commit an offence that was not carried out.
Quebec Court Judge Frédéric Bénard ruled that Sanjeev Sirpal asked his thengirlfriend to write a false diary entry meant to suggest that one of his patients had made racist remarks and worn a Nazi symbol in a Montrealarea waiting room.
The judge said the request was intended to discredit the patient, who had filed a complaint against Sirpal with the province’s medical regulator. Bénard also found Sirpal guilty of assaulting his former girlfriend in August and December 2020, while acquitting him of dangerous driving and attempted obstruction of justice. Sentencing is set for Oct. 15 in Laval, Que.
