Flash flood warning issued in southwestern Manitoba after heavy rain

Southwestern Manitoba is under a flash flood warning after torrential rain again hit the region on Monday, prompting the Municipality of BoissevainMorton to declare a state of emergency. Boissevain received about 152 millimetres of rain by Tuesday morning, while other communities including Deloraine, Minto, Shilo, Neepawa, Plumas and Rivers also reported heavy rainfall. Provincial emergency officials warned that many roads are unsafe and advised against travel because of floodwater damage and possible washouts. Local officials said the storm overwhelmed drainage systems, flooded homes and businesses, and forced the cancellation of Heritage Day and Canada Day events in Boissevain. The region has already faced severe flooding earlier in June, and the province has introduced disaster financial assistance for stormrelated damage.
