Weis Markets adds Instacart AI-powered shopping carts

Weis Markets is rolling out Instacart’s Caper Carts in select Pennsylvania stores, giving shoppers access to digital coupons, loyalty features, and item recommendations while they shop.
The smart carts use cameras, scales, location tracking, and a touchscreen to help identify items and support checkout. According to Instacart, the carts combine ondevice processing with cloudbased AI trained on a large set of online grocery orders.
Customers can watch their spending on the cart screen, claim locationbased coupons, and link a Weis Rewards account to use loyalty benefits. Weis and Instacart already partner on online grocery services, and Instacart says the cart rollout is part of a broader expansion across U.S. retail chains.
