Bank of Canada unveils new vertical $20 bill featuring King Charles

Bank of Canada $20 bill unveils King Charles III in a historic new design See the vertical polymer note with fresh security features as it rolls out in 2027

The Bank of Canada has unveiled a new $20 bill in Ottawa featuring a portrait of King Charles III. The vertical polymer note replaces the image of Queen Elizabeth II and is the first Canadian bank note to feature Charles. Governor Tiff Macklem called the design historic and said it includes security features not previously used on a Canadian bank note. The green bill keeps the Canadian National Vimy Memorial on the back and adds floral and leafy elements inspired by the King’s environmental work. The new note is expected to begin circulating gradually in late February 2027. It is the second vertical bank note in Canada’s current series, following the $10 bill featuring Viola Desmond.
