Former CFTC commissioner to leave Blockchain Association after CLARITY vote setback

Blockchain Association CEO Summer Mersinger exits after crypto bill setback Kristin Smith returns as interim CEO as the group pushes for clearer rules

Summer Mersinger, a former commissioner at the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, will leave her role as CEO of the Blockchain Association later this year after serving in the position since 2025. The trade group said Kristin Smith, its former chief executive, will return as interim CEO on Oct. 16. Smith will also continue her work with the Solana Policy Institute. Mersinger’s departure comes after a key crypto market structure bill, the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, failed to advance in the Senate earlier this month. The Blockchain Association had supported the legislation and had also highlighted its work on stablecoin policy and broader regulatory clarity with the SEC and CFTC.
