Extreme heat warnings spread across much of Canada

Environment Canada has issued extreme heat warnings for large parts of Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories as temperatures rise across much of the country. The warnings come as a heat wave grips several regions, with some areas in southwestern Ontario forecast to reach between 30 C and 37 C and humidex values as high as 40. Parts of Quebec are also expected to see temperatures near 30 C, while northern Manitoba is facing continued heat through midweek. Meteorologists say the pattern is consistent with a heat dome, a highpressure system that traps warm air over a region for several days. Health officials are urging people to limit time outdoors during the hottest hours, drink water, wear light clothing and watch for signs of heat exhaustion, especially among older adults, young children and people with chronic illnesses.
