An armed man was arrested Monday after driving up to a security barricade near the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., prompting a temporary closure of part of the grounds.
U.S. Capitol Police said officers found a firearm and took the suspect into custody at the North Barricade. Police said weapons are not allowed on Capitol grounds, and investigators are still trying to determine why the man drove there.
Authorities have not identified the suspect or announced charges. A Ford Bronco with Florida plates was later towed away, and a dog that had been inside the vehicle was safely removed and taken away by animal welfare officials.
