Crews have drained the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool in Washington, D.C., as the Trump administration moves ahead with another round of repairs after July Fourth celebrations.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said the work was planned and includes cleaning out debris from the holiday fireworks, repairing damage attributed by officials to vandalism, and refilling the pool afterward. The National Park Service oversees the landmark.
The pool had only recently been restored, but problems appeared soon after completion, including algae growth and peeling of the new coating. Court records also say park police investigated reported damage in June, and several people have faced charges tied to the pool's surface being damaged or removed.
