Five former B.C. Conservative MLAs form new party

B.C. political party takes shape as ex-Conservatives rally around Milobar and Paton New group promises a stable alternative on affordability, rights and health care

Five former B.C. Conservative MLAs are coming together to create a new provincial political party led by Peter Milobar and Ian Paton. Rosalyn Bird, Bruce Banman and Áʼa:líya Warbus announced on Friday that they have joined the new group after recently leaving the B.C. Conservative caucus. The move comes after nine departures from the caucus in recent weeks. In a statement, the unnamed party said it aims to offer a stable alternative to the NDP. Milobar said the party will focus on affordability, property rights, natural resource development and health care, and plans to present itself as a less ideologydriven option. The group expects to hold an internal leadership vote before the legislature returns on Oct. 5 and intends to sit with official thirdparty status.
