Quebec has lifted an openair fire ban across much of the province after improved weather conditions eased wildfire concerns.
The province’s wildfire prevention agency, SOPFEU, said the restriction was removed on Monday night for most areas. However, it remains in effect in AbitibiTémiscamingue, Lanaudière, the Laurentians, Northern Quebec and Outaouais.
The ban was introduced on July 7 after wildfire activity increased in northern Quebec. SOPFEU said additional firefighters from British Columbia and Alberta were sent to help contain the blazes, and that there are still active fires in both the Intensive Protection Zone and the Northern Zone.
