Bluesky looks to Reddit as it seeks new direction

Bluesky shifts toward community-driven spaces and topic discovery See how it plans to stand out from X and Threads as it grows

Bluesky, the social platform that began as a Twitter alternative, is shifting its focus as it looks for a stronger path forward. According to the company’s chief operating officer, Rose Wang, Bluesky is not trying to match X or Threads and instead sees more value in building around communitydriven spaces. Wang said the platform is moving away from the idea of a single public square and toward a model that helps people discover and join topicbased communities, similar to Reddit. She said Bluesky wants to be useful as a discovery tool rather than a direct competitor to larger social feeds. The company is also working on product improvements, including faster uploads and longer video support, after engagement eased from earlier highs. Bluesky had about 43 million global users in March, far below X and Threads, and it has not ruled out ads as a future revenue option.
