Liberals choose Tanveer Shahnawaz for Beaches-East York byelection

Beaches-East York byelection sees Liberal candidate Tanveer Shahnawaz step up Backed by local ties and party experience, he aims to serve residents and win votes

The Liberal Party of Canada has named Tanveer Shahnawaz as its candidate for the upcoming federal byelection in BeachesEast York, Toronto. The party said Shahnawaz has long ties to the riding and has worked as office manager for former Liberal MP Nathaniel ErskineSmith. He also served as cochair of the TaylorMassey & Oakridge Community Response Team. ErskineSmith resigned from the seat in June, leaving the riding open. Shahnawaz said he is ready to work with Prime Minister Mark Carney's team and focus on local priorities. The Liberal Party said the byelection will be an important test for residents choosing their next MP.
