Toronto transit ridership rises during World Cup matches

Toronto transit usage climbed during the city’s 2026 World Cup matches, according to early data from the Toronto Transit Service. The agency said ridership on routes serving BMO Field and Exhibition Place was 42% higher than in the same period last year. Those corridors include buses and streetcars along King, Dufferin, Bathurst, Ossington and Harbourfront. On the busiest day, the opening match between Canada and Bosnia on June 12, 202,700 riders used transit on those routes. That was 65,200 more than in 2025, and across the six matchdays the total reached 1.14 million rides, up from 802,000 the year before. The agency said more data will be released after the tournament ends.
