The match was overshadowed by a serious injury to midfielder Ismaël Koné in the first half. The tackle left Koné unable to continue, and he was taken off on a stretcher after a long delay and a visibly emotional response from teammates, coach Jesse Marsch, and the crowd.
Canada led 30 at halftime and added three more goals after play resumed. Jonathan David scored three times, while the team also delivered a strong allaround performance in front of a heavily proCanada crowd.
