The Toronto Marlies captured the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup on Friday in Toronto, defeating the Chicago Wolves 43 in Game 5 of the championship series.
Vinni Lettieri scored the gamewinning goal on the power play in the second period. BenoitOlivier Groulx, Jacob Quillan and Landon Sim also scored for Toronto, which won the series 41 for its second AHL title.
Goaltender Artur Akhtyamov made 27 saves and earned the win. Akhtyamov was also named the most valuable player of the AHL playoffs after a strong postseason run that included 15 wins in 22 appearances.
