Rail operations resume slowly after Repentigny derailment

Train traffic is resuming at reduced speed in Repentigny, Que., after a major derailment on Sunday forced a large cleanup and inspection effort. CN Rail said trains are now passing through the area slowly, with inspections taking place after each train. Cleanup crews will remain on site for several more days as work continues. According to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, 49 railcars ended up on the tracks in a residential neighbourhood. No one was hurt, and CN said there were no fires, leaks, or hazardous materials involved. The cause of the derailment has not yet been determined, and the TSB says investigators are examining train handling, rolling stock, and track condition.
