Republican Party revokes CBC/Radio-Canada media accreditation for convention
CBC/Radio-Canada accreditation revoked for GOP convention amid US tensions See why the decision is drawing backlash and what it could mean next
The Republican Party has revoked CBC/RadioCanada’s media accreditation for its upcoming midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, scheduled for Sept. 9 and 10.
CBC public affairs head Chuck Thompson said the broadcaster is reviewing the Republican National Committee’s decision and described it as disappointing, saying CBC hopes it will be reconsidered.
Convention organizers did not respond immediately to CBC’s request for comment, and the White House directed questions to the RNC. The move comes amid strained CanadaU.S. relations and criticism from Republican lawmakers and Trump administration officials over CBC’s language guidance related to 9/11.
