U.S. searchandrescue teams pulled a 9monthold infant and her mother alive from the rubble in Venezuela days after twin earthquakes hit the country, according to the State Department.
The rescue took place in Catia La Mar and involved the Fairfax County Urban Search and Rescue team, which was deployed after the disaster. Officials said both survivors had only minor injuries.
The operation comes as crews continue searching damaged areas in Venezuela, where the earthquakes have killed more than 1,400 people and left tens of thousands missing. Virginia, California and Florida teams are among the U.S. responders sent to assist local and international relief efforts.
