Escaped kangaroo recovering at Granby Zoo
Red kangaroo at Granby Zoo is eating well after a Quebec rescue See how staff are helping it adjust safely while officials investigate
A red kangaroo that was found roaming Montreal’s South Shore is now settling in at Granby Zoo, where staff say it is eating well and adjusting to its temporary enclosure.
The young male kangaroo was captured by wildlife officials on Tuesday evening near Boucherville, Quebec, after being spotted days earlier. Provincial authorities are still investigating how the animal got loose, including reports that it may have been kept in facilities that did not meet Quebec rules.
Granby Zoo said the kangaroo appears alert and healthy and estimated it is between 14 and 18 months old. The animal is being kept in a quiet area with indoor and outdoor space while caretakers monitor its recovery.
