German authorities say the suspect in the deadly attack near Berlin’s Pride celebrations was killed during a confrontation with police on Sunday in a suburb of the capital.
Officials identified the suspect as Abdul Ballout, a 21yearold German citizen with Lebanese roots. Prosecutors said he had previously tried to travel to join ISIS and had already faced terrorismrelated charges in Germany and Lebanon.
Police said a van drove into a crowd in Tiergarten park on Saturday night, leaving one person dead and 29 injured. Investigators believe the assault was motivated by Islamist extremism and are reviewing security measures for other large public events, including Pride gatherings.
