Daily GO train service begins between Toronto and Stratford

Metrolinx has started daily yearround GO train service between Toronto and Stratford, Ont., with one round trip offered every day. The new service extends the Kitchener line farther west from Union Station and is intended to support travel, tourism and local jobs. The weekday schedule includes an early morning express trip from Stratford to Toronto and an afternoon return trip, while weekend service will also run in both directions with stops in several communities along the line. Metrolinx said the change gives passengers more travel options, though some residents and officials noted that ridership will be important to the service’s longterm success. Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma took the first train from the city and said the route could help residents, commuters, students and visitors. He also said the community will need to help promote the service so that enough people use it to keep it viable.
