Ontario Place parking garage to cost taxpayers $200 million, province says it will generate revenue

Ontario’s government says it has awarded a $200 million contract to build a new fivestorey parking garage at Ontario Place in Toronto. Tourism Minister Stan Cho announced the deal with Canadian firm Pomerleau Inc. on Thursday. The province says the garage will include up to 3,500 parking spots, 680 EV charging stations, bicycle parking, and a bus pickup and dropoff area. Officials say the project is expected to bring in as much as $60 million a year in revenue. The parking plan has been a major point of criticism as the province continues its redevelopment of Ontario Place, including work tied to the Therme spa and waterpark project. The auditor general has also said the province is required to provide parking under its agreement with Therme.
