Minimum wage rates are rising in five Canadian provinces, with new levels taking effect in Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
The increases range from 25 to 40 cents per hour. Ontario is lifting its minimum wage to $17.95, while Prince Edward Island will move to $17.30 and Nova Scotia to $17. Manitoba’s rate will rise to $16.40, and Saskatchewan’s to $15.70.
Officials in Ontario linked the change to the higher cost of living. The article also notes that Alberta remains at $15 an hour, the lowest minimum wage in the country, while Nunavut raised its rate earlier in September and now has the highest minimum wage in Canada at just over $20 an hour.
