Toronto Faces Hot, Humid Week Ahead as Canada Day Nears

Toronto is heading into a stretch of very hot and humid weather, with temperatures expected to rise above 32 C on most days this week. Humidex values could make it feel like the 40s, and the hottest period is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. Environment and Climate Change Canada says the heat will coincide with Canada Day and other large public events in the city. Monday starts with a high near 29 C, but overnight lows will remain warm in the mid to low20s. Showers and a chance of thunderstorms are also in the forecast during the week. City officials are urging people to take heat precautions and check on neighbours, friends and family who may be more vulnerable, especially those living alone. Toronto has expanded its heat relief measures this year, including cooling spaces, longer pool hours and mobile water stations. Some relief is expected by Sunday, when temperatures are forecast to ease.
