Frontier enterprises are deepening AI use to build an advantage
OpenAI B2B Signals shows frontier firms use AI 3.5x more per worker than peers See how agentic workflows, governance, and training can help your team scale
Frontier enterprises are using AI more deeply than typical firms, according to a new OpenAI report on business adoption patterns. The company says these leading firms now use about 3.5 times as much intelligence per worker as typical firms, up from 2 times a year earlier, with the biggest difference coming from richer and more complex uses rather than just higher message volume.
The report highlights a shift from basic access to more advanced workflows. Frontier firms are especially active in agentic tools such as Codex, ChatGPT Agent, Apps in ChatGPT, Deep Research, and GPTs, suggesting they are more willing to delegate multistep tasks and embed AI into daytoday work. OpenAI also says use is expanding across functions, including software development, IT, security, finance, and customer support.
OpenAI introduced B2B Signals, a businessfocused extension of its Signals product, to track how AI is spreading across enterprises using aggregated and deidentified usage data. The company says organizations can move toward the frontier by measuring depth of use, strengthening governance, investing in training, scaling successful teams, and shifting from chatbased assistance to agentbased workflows.
