B.C. allows new drivers to take learner’s licence knowledge test online

ICBC is now letting new drivers in British Columbia take the learner’s licence knowledge test online for passenger vehicles and motorcycles. The change does not apply to people seeking commercial driving licences. The provincial government says the move is meant to reduce wait times at ICBC offices and save people a trip in person. Attorney General Niki Sharma said the online option should improve convenience, especially for people in rural and remote areas who may have had to travel long distances for the test. The test will remain the same as the inperson version, but it will use security measures to help prevent cheating. It must be taken on a computer with a camera and secure internet connection, and ICBC will monitor webcam and mouse activity. After passing, applicants still need to visit an ICBC office to confirm their identity, complete a vision test and have their photo taken before receiving the licence.
