Vancouver police said the city’s first World Cup match passed without any major incidents, with two arrests reported during the event.
One person was arrested at the fan festival at the Pacific National Exhibition for breaching courtordered conditions, while another was removed from BC Place after becoming too intoxicated and refusing to leave.
Police said the number of arrests was small for an event of this size. The match at BC Place drew a soldout crowd of 52,497, and Australia defeated Turkey 20. Vancouver’s next World Cup match is scheduled for June 18, when Canada plays Qatar.
