New records shed light on Trump Butler shooting investigation

Butler Trump shooting probe faces fresh questions after new records emerged Lawmakers want answers on the 2024 attack, agency response, and gaps in the case

Republican lawmakers say newly reviewed records have raised fresh questions about the 2024 attempt on Donald Trump’s life in Butler, Pennsylvania. The shooting happened during a campaign rally in July 2024, when Thomas Matthew Crooks fired at Trump, grazing his ear and killing one attendee who tried to protect his family. Rep. Mike Kelly, who led a bipartisan House task force on the attack, said investigators had limited cooperation from federal agencies at the time and relied mostly on local law enforcement to complete their report. He said that left major questions unanswered and made it difficult to fully assess what happened. According to documents reviewed by Fox News Digital, Crooks’ father had searched in May 2024 for ways to keep his son from accessing firearms. Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley obtained the records as part of an ongoing inquiry, and lawmakers say the new material reinforces the need for a full accounting of the attack, the law enforcement response, and the remaining gaps in the investigation.
