Poland keeps crypto bill veto as Zondacrypto investigation expands

Poland crypto regulation stalls after a failed veto override, delaying MiCA oversight Zondacrypto scrutiny and political backlash raise pressure for a tighter framework

Poland’s lower house failed to override President Karol Nawrocki’s veto of a crypto bill that would have created a national framework for applying the European Union’s MiCA rules. The vote in the Sejm fell short of the threefifths majority needed, leaving the country without a designated crypto supervisor under the new European regime. The dispute comes as scrutiny around Zondacrypto deepens. Polish officials say prosecutors are examining suspected fraud and money laundering connected to the exchange, while the firm’s Estonian operator, BB Trade Estonia, was declared bankrupt in August. Prime Minister Donald Tusk used the widening case to argue for stronger oversight, saying the investigation suggests broader criminal activity and possible attempts to influence political figures. Nawrocki has said he supports regulation in principle but believes the proposed law would have gone too far in expanding state powers and compliance costs.
