Rogers to close Vancouver radio stations News 1130 and Sportsnet 650
Rogers Sports & Media shuts down Vancouver's News 1130 and Sportsnet 650 See what closures mean for listeners, staff and CityNews streaming services
Rogers Sports & Media says it will shut down Vancouver radio stations News 1130 and Sportsnet 650 as part of a wider restructuring effort.
The company said the closures affect two of six radio stations in four markets, citing declining audience and revenue trends. Other stations closing include news and sports outlets in Vancouver, along with news stations in Halifax and Kitchener.
Rogers said about 80 employees were affected by the radio station closures, and 230 positions were eliminated across Rogers Sports & Media. The company said the stations’ websites will remain active and CityNews will continue streaming news in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver, while TV newscasts will carry on in several major markets.
