CFTC and SEC advance tokenization efforts as onchain stock trading expands

Tokenization and onchain markets gain US regulatory support as agencies push ahead See how the SEC and CFTC are shaping faster settlement and trading access

US regulators are continuing to support tokenization and onchain market development even after the CLARITY Act failed to move forward in the Senate. CFTC Chair Michael Selig said tokenization of realworld assets could improve market efficiency by speeding up settlement and collateral transfers across clearinghouses, intermediaries, and users. He said the agency will rely on principlesbased rules as tokenized finance develops. The SEC is also taking steps toward onchain markets. A temporary “Innovation Exemption” granted on Sept. 17 allows certain platforms to trade tokenized versions of USlisted stocks under specific conditions, while the agency continues working on longerterm rules.
