More than 270,000 crossings recorded at Gordie Howe bridge in first full month
Gordie Howe International Bridge tops 270,000 crossings in August See how the new Windsor-Detroit link is reshaping travel and freight
More than 270,000 crossings were recorded at the Gordie Howe International Bridge in August, its first full month of operation.
Statistics Canada said the bridge, which links Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, handled 134,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the U.S. by car, with most of those trips made the same day. It also saw 101,000 U.S. resident trips into Canada by car, along with 34,800 commercial truck entries.
The new crossing opened on July 27 after delays and is expected to help move passenger and commercial traffic between Canada and the U.S. while easing congestion at other regional border crossings. The article also noted that traffic at Windsor’s Ambassador Bridge and the WindsorDetroit Tunnel was lower than a year earlier, while truck traffic at those other crossings rose slightly.
