ShinyHunters hackers claim FBI data breach
ShinyHunters claims FBI breach and employee data theft See what Reuters verified and why the attack matters
The digital extortion group ShinyHunters says it breached the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and stole data on thousands of employees.
According to the group, the attack was carried out in response to an FBI warning in May 2026 that described its tactics and advised targets not to pay. ShinyHunters also shared images and samples of what it said was stolen material, including a screenshot of a vandalized FBI job site.
Reuters said it could partially verify some of the employee information against other records, but it could not confirm that the data came from FBI internal systems. The FBI did not immediately comment on the claim.
