Mike Morrice enters Green Party leadership race with a focus on affordability He says the Greens must address economic pressure; vote Nov. 2 to 13

Former Green MP Mike Morrice has announced he is running to become the next leader of the federal Green Party. He made the announcement Wednesday in downtown Kitchener, Ont., saying the party should focus on affordability and broader economic pressures affecting Canadians. Morrice, who represented Kitchener Centre for one term, lost his seat in the April 2025 federal election to Conservative Kelly DeRidder. He was later named deputy leader of the Greens in November 2025 and has already been selected as the party’s candidate for the next federal election. He is one of two approved leadership candidates. His opponent is Nira Dookeran, an educator from Ottawa who has previously run for the party. Voting for the leadership race is set for Nov. 2 to 13, with results expected on Nov. 14.
