Kelowna waterfront boardwalk remains closed amid repair dispute

A popular waterfront boardwalk in Kelowna, British Columbia, remains closed this summer as the city and Hotel Eldorado continue to disagree over structural repairs and access to the site. The walkway, which runs beside the Eldorado and Manteo hotels on Okanagan Lake, was shut down after an inspection found rotting planks and structural instability. City crews later blocked the route with barricades, but the closure has continued for nearly 10 months beyond the city’s earlier repair deadline. The city says it hired a contractor to make safety repairs but was denied access to the property by hotel ownership. The hotel says work could not proceed safely because the city’s contractors arrived without advance consultation. Both sides say they want the issue resolved, but the public boardwalk remains fenced off during peak season.
